The LCB need to see documentation for overseas pro's in the Lancs KO.

Do they check the paperwork for overseas amateurs?

He has just been granted British Citizenship this week, proof therefore that he was an overseas player in the Central Lancashire League for the last three seasons.
It will be interesting to see how many more local league players here on Visitors Visas suddenly start applying for British Citizenship now that they cant play Recreational cricket as amateurs unless they have the Sports Visa or here on the Youth mobility scheme.

RE: Local League pros 2009

Following the article in the Manchester Evening News and Oldham Advertiser
I have pasted this article from Thursday's O/m Chron below(save Duckworth some time), the Rumours were started by McMahon's Vice Chairman John Wilson who stated that they would not rule him out of making a return when his ban expires next year, he also states that "it wasnt his fault he was hit on the head"
More likely this happened whilst he was being restrained.

WERNETH Cricket Club have strongly denied rumours that Mark Vermeulen is to return to the club as professional.

The Zimbabwe international batsman, who has featured in recent one-day series against South Africa and Kenya, left the Coppice club in disgrace following an infamous incident during a Central Lancashire League match in 2006.

Playing as professional for Werneth, Vermeulen lost his temper after being barracked by home supporters at Ashton’s Rayner Lane ground. He hurled a cricket ball at them and then, armed with a boundary-marker spike, he marched towards them before he was wrestled to the ground by Werneth supporters and officials.

He was subsequently banned from all cricket matches under the jurisdiction of the ECB for a year and, on his return to Zimbabwe, was arrested after setting fire to the country’s cricket academy building in Harare.

The charges against Vermeulen were dropped by a Zimbabwean court after it heard medical evidence which stated he had not been in control of his actions.

Vermeulen had twice been hit on the head by cricket balls delivered at pace and the blows had affected his state of mind, the court was told.

Following his return to the international arena, there have been rumours in local cricketing circles that Vermeulen might return to Werneth.

But Werneth CC cricket chairman Adie McMahon, one of those who restrained Vermeulen at Ashton, said there was no chance of that happening.

He said: “Some people are unable to comprehend that we ended up as friends.

“On a personal level, I am glad that he appears to be over his problems and I am amazed but delighted that he is back playing for Zimbabwe which has always been very close to his heart.

“However, for clarification, Werneth Cricket Club have never discussed or contemplated re-engaging Mark Vermeulen and have no intention of doing so.”

Parents, children and young people have a right to expect that cricket clubs ensure their staff and volunteers are suitably experienced, qualified, trained and skilled to fulfil their roles.
Too many people are coaching without proper qualifications or being members of the ECBCA.

I think he coached their under 11s when he was here and he was very good, encouraging both sides during a game and offering useful advice to the kids.

Glad to see he has recovered.

Not a good advert for the local game, a sensible comment would have been "No comment".
I have a couple of mates who formed the police house entry team that dragged him out of his trashed flat at Werneth kicking and screaming after he had returned following the abandoned game and took him to a place of safety, what a turn around.
The comment about playing as an amateur does seem strange as he recently returned to International Cricket.

Fast Bowling directives

The ECB fast bowling directives have changed following a two-year consultation process. The outcome is that bowlers up to under-15 level are now able to bowl longer spells and more overs in a day.

Under the new guidelines bowlers at under-16 and under-17 level are now permitted to bowl an extra over per spell, but those in the under-18 and under-19 category have had the total number of overs they can deliver per day reduced from 21 to 18.

These guidelines will come into effect for the start of the 2010 season.

The fast bowling guidelines are designed to raise awareness of the need to nurture and protect young fast bowlers through their formative years. Research has shown that fast bowlers are by far the most likely players to be missing playing and training time due to injury.

For the purpose of these guidelines a fast bowler should be defined as a bowler to whom a wicket keeper in the same age group would in normal circumstances stand back to take the ball

Kevin Shine, ECB lead fast bowling coach, said: “The elite fast bowling group has been researching injury prevention, performance enhancement and workloads for the past four years.

“The new recommendations mean youngsters under the age of 15 can now bowl an additional over in a spell and two overs more in a day. These figures are over and above the original directives.

“It is clear that our young bowlers need to bowl more so that they can develop match winning abilities and habits and I look forward to the revised directives giving individual fast bowlers and teams more of a chance to play match winning cricket.”

The results included input from clubs, county boards, ECB elite performance group, which includes, ESCA, ECB performance, ECB development, England elite player development, ECB operations, and HMC schools.

All Club Welfare Officers will get an update sent to their home address for their Safe Hands Folder, that is providing they are trained

RE: Saddleworth League planning to restrict 1st. class players..

Money isnt a problem all the players would stay, the Club could have say 14 players registered for League i Divs 1 & 2 and the rest registered for League ii Divs 1 & 2.
All the players could play in the National Knockout as they would all be bone fide club members
Yes League i could have as many as 30 fixtures and a cup competition but as the club now have 2 grounds at their disposal entry in the National KO isnt a problem
The logistics are a problem and who is eligible to play in the Lancs Knockout would be interesting.
And this isnt as far fetches as it sounds!!!
